Delhi Technological University has been established by Govt. of Delhi by upgrading the erstwhile Delhi College of engineering vide Delhi Act 6 of 2009 which has come in force with effect from July 15, 2009 with its notification in the official gazette. DTU is committed to provide update curriculum, attract best of minds for its faculty ensure high academic standards and encourage research and innovation in areas of relevance to industry and society. The University is introducing 4 new B.Tech programmes namely Software Engineering, Engineering Physics, Electrical and Electronics Engineering and Automobile Engineering with the intake of 60 each from the current academic session 2009-10

Out of the total seats 85% seats meant for the candidates belonging to Delhi region shall be filled on the basis of the merit/rank of the Delhi CEE-2009 conducted by Delhi University and 15% seats meant for the candidates belonging to Outside Delhi region shall be filled on the basis of the merit/rank of AIEEE-2009 conducted by the CBSE and declared eligible for counseling.

Admissions will be made from amongst those, who will apply on the prescribed form strictly on the basis of Rank of CEE-2009 for Delhi region seats and AIEEE-2009 for outside Delhi region seats.

The application form can be obtained from the Reception counter, Administrative building, Delhi Technological University, Shahbad Daulatpur, Main Bawana Road, Delhi-110042 in person on all working days from Monday to Friday between 10.00 am to 04.00 pm on submission of a Pay order or crossed DD of Rs. 500/-. Or

The application form can be downloaded from the DTU website www.dce.edu and submitted along with a demand draft of Rs. 500/- on or before the last date for receipt of completed application form.

The DD should be drawn in favour of Registrar, Delhi Technological University payable at Delhi.

Date of release of application form: 04.08.2009 (Tuesday)

Last date for sale of form at DTU counter upto 1.00 p.m.: 13.08.2009 (Thursday)

Last date for receipt of completed form at DTU upto 4.00 p.m.: 13.08.2009 (Thursday)

Note: The applications received after the last date of receipt of completed forms will not be accepted.

Visual Merchandising Course

Visual Merchandising Course includes a wide spectrum of innovative ideas applied in the creative presentation of a particular item or service. This course is specially meant for professionals who yearn to imbibe the art of impeccable presentation emanating verve, flamboyance and simultaneously drawing the attention of consumers in the retail stores, exhibition, fashion, boutiques and museums. Visual merchandising provides interactive retail experience and electronic fashion striving for the convergence of fashion design, interior design, architecture, lighting and music.

Qualifications: Applicants need to complete their 10+2 in any stream with an aptitude towards designing,coupled with sheer aesthetic sense to appear for graduation course in fashion technology or fashion design where visual merchandising is one of the subjects in the curriculum of fashion technology.

For attending the specialized workshops in premier institutes like National Institute of Fashion Technology(NIFT) ,an applicant preferably needs to complete a graduation in fashion technology,fashion designing with a flair towards intermingling creativity and technology. Some institutes offer certificate courses where the prerequisite is core competency in the areas of fashion and interior design.

2066 students get NIFT degrees at convocation

New Delhi: Union Minister of Textiles, Mr. Shankersinh Vaghela awarded degrees to the graduating 2066 students of the batches of year 2007 and 2008 at the 14th Convocation of National Institute of Fashion Technology (NIFT), here today.

Addressing on the occasion, Vaghela called upon the students to uphold the finest traditions while they carved out brilliant careers for themselves in their chosen fields.

Vaghela hoped that fears of a recessionary trend seen globally could be allayed to a certain extent in the Indian context. "I also look to you, the youth, the graduates of leading institutions such as NIFT to create conditions for future growth", he said.

Director General of NIFT, Mr. Rajiv Takru said that in 2006-07, NIFT added the post-graduate programme in Design Space, thereby completing its offer of master level programmes with one programme each in Design, Management and Technology.

He also announced the introduction of doctoral and post-doctoral programmes in the current academic year thereby completing the bouquet of professional programmes as envisaged in the NIFT Act of 2006.

Takru also informed that in 2008, four new centres of NIFT have been opened and inspite of the manifold increase in the number of students, the institute could attract the best placements in the fashion industry.

He said that in 2007 alone, 49 students were sent to study abroad and nine students from foreign universities of the Netherlands, UK, Australia and France came to NIFT. Currently, NIFT has 26 Memorandums of Understanding (MoUs) with foreign fashion schools.

Chairman of the Board of Governors of NIFT, Mr. D.P. Singh was also present on the occasion.

Bihar allocates Rs.586 million for NIFT branch

Patna: The Bihar government has approved the allocation of Rs.586 million for the setting up of a branch of the prestigious National Institute of Fashion Technology (NIFT) here, officials said on Wednesday.
The state cabinet agreed to provide financial support for the establishment of the institute on Tuesday, cabinet secretary Girish Shankar said.
"The amount will be spent on the NIFT's infrastructure, including building and equipment. Of the total amount approved, Rs.270 million will be spent in the current financial year," he said.
In May this year, the cabinet had approved free-of-cost transfer of 10 acres of land from the agriculture department to the industries department for establishment of the NIFT branch, which will be the ninth in the country.
NIFT has branches in Mumbai, New Delhi, Bangalore, Chennai, Hyderabad, Kolkata and Rai Bareilly.
Sources said classes at NIFT will begin this academic session. It will initially have a small batch of students and function from a temporary building, which is being renovated.
"Till the time its own building comes up, the NIFT will temporarily function from the Bihar Industrial Area Development Authority building," an official said. IANS
