About NIFT

National Institute of Fashion Technology was setup in 1986 under the aegis of Ministry of Textiles, Govt. of India. It has emerged as a premier Institute of Design, Management & Technology, developing professionals for taking up leadership positions in the Fashion business in the emerging global scenario

These programmes aimed at making these campuses financially viable for optimum utilization of infrastructure and other resources

Diploma Programs are full time programs whose duration may range from one to two years. UG Diploma Programs are of two years duration and PG Diploma Programs are of one-year duration

Diploma (Fashion Fit & Style) (Store Operations) (Textile CAD) (Surface Embellishment for Knits)

PG Diploma (Apparel Production & Merchandising) (Fashion Fundamentals for the Industry) (Leather Goods Design)
Eligibility Criteria for NIFT Chennai Diploma Admission 2015

There is no age limit for Diploma and PG Diploma Programs as these can be taken up by people at any stage of life to enhance their skills and further their educational qualifications

Minimum eductional qualification for admission to Dilpoma Programmes is as follows:

Diploma Programme: 10+2 in any discipline; candidates with 2-3 years of work experience

Post Graduate Diploma Programme: Graduation Degree or A full time diploma after 10th standard from a reputed institute; candidates with 2-3 years of work experience
Selection Process for Diploma /PG Diploma Programs in NIFT, Chennai

The selection of candidates for the Diploma and PG Diploma Program will be carried out by the campus on the basis of qualification and/or qualifying test/ personal interview / presentation of past work

A list of the selected candidates will be announced through website www.nift.ac.in
How to Apply Diploma & PG Diploma Programs Admission 2015 in NIFT, Chennai

The Prospectus-cum-Application Form can be downloaded from the website www.nift.ac.in. The application along with the prospectus can be obtained from NIFT Chennai campus on payment of Rs.200/- in person or by post enclosing a Demand Draft of Rs.300/- in favour of NIFT payable at Chennai

The duly filled in application along with the registration fee of Rs.2000/- by demand draft in favour of NIFT payable at Chennai shall be submitted in person at NIFT Chennai or by post in the following address Academics Department, National Institute of Fashion Technology, NIFT Campus, Rajiv Gandhi Salai, Taramani, Chennai-600113

The duly filled in form should reach NIFT Chennai on or before 17th August 2015 lete forms or forms received after the due date will not be accepted; the institute does not take any responsibility for delay or loss in postal transit or by courier

Fashion technology institute to be functional next year

Shimla: The National Institute of Fashion Technology (NIFT) branch slated to be set up in Himachal Pradesh's Kangra district would start its admission process from August next year, an official release said on Saturday.

"The NIFT would start its first batch from August next year," the release said.

Textile Minister Shankarsingh Vaghela would lay the foundation stone of the institute at Chheb village near Kangra town Jan 23.

The state government has provided 10 acres free of cost for setting up the institute. It would also contribute Rs.580 million (Rs.58 crore).

The proposed site has been selected by a team of experts headed by NIFT director-general Rajiv Tarku.

The fashion institute would help provide global exposure to hand-knitted woollens by state rural craftsmen like shawls, stoles, mufflers, socks, gloves, pullovers and caps, Kangra paintings, Chamba rumal (handkerchief), and jewellery items. IANS

2066 students get NIFT degrees at convocation

New Delhi: Union Minister of Textiles, Mr. Shankersinh Vaghela awarded degrees to the graduating 2066 students of the batches of year 2007 and 2008 at the 14th Convocation of National Institute of Fashion Technology (NIFT), here today.

Addressing on the occasion, Vaghela called upon the students to uphold the finest traditions while they carved out brilliant careers for themselves in their chosen fields.

Vaghela hoped that fears of a recessionary trend seen globally could be allayed to a certain extent in the Indian context. "I also look to you, the youth, the graduates of leading institutions such as NIFT to create conditions for future growth", he said.

Director General of NIFT, Mr. Rajiv Takru said that in 2006-07, NIFT added the post-graduate programme in Design Space, thereby completing its offer of master level programmes with one programme each in Design, Management and Technology.

He also announced the introduction of doctoral and post-doctoral programmes in the current academic year thereby completing the bouquet of professional programmes as envisaged in the NIFT Act of 2006.

Takru also informed that in 2008, four new centres of NIFT have been opened and inspite of the manifold increase in the number of students, the institute could attract the best placements in the fashion industry.

He said that in 2007 alone, 49 students were sent to study abroad and nine students from foreign universities of the Netherlands, UK, Australia and France came to NIFT. Currently, NIFT has 26 Memorandums of Understanding (MoUs) with foreign fashion schools.

Chairman of the Board of Governors of NIFT, Mr. D.P. Singh was also present on the occasion.

Bihar allocates Rs.586 million for NIFT branch

Patna: The Bihar government has approved the allocation of Rs.586 million for the setting up of a branch of the prestigious National Institute of Fashion Technology (NIFT) here, officials said on Wednesday.
The state cabinet agreed to provide financial support for the establishment of the institute on Tuesday, cabinet secretary Girish Shankar said.
"The amount will be spent on the NIFT's infrastructure, including building and equipment. Of the total amount approved, Rs.270 million will be spent in the current financial year," he said.
In May this year, the cabinet had approved free-of-cost transfer of 10 acres of land from the agriculture department to the industries department for establishment of the NIFT branch, which will be the ninth in the country.
NIFT has branches in Mumbai, New Delhi, Bangalore, Chennai, Hyderabad, Kolkata and Rai Bareilly.
Sources said classes at NIFT will begin this academic session. It will initially have a small batch of students and function from a temporary building, which is being renovated.
"Till the time its own building comes up, the NIFT will temporarily function from the Bihar Industrial Area Development Authority building," an official said. IANS
