WASHINGTON – NEW VENTURES INTERNSHIP 2010

Since 2000, New Ventures has supported the growth of financially-viable small and medium enterprises (SMEs) with strong environmental and social benefits by providing them with business advisory services and access to capital and markets, growing a portfolio of over 220 enterprises and facilitating investment of around US$ 200 million. New Ventures has built six local centers of support to drive innovation and growth among sustainable SMEs in Brazil, China, Colombia, India, Indonesia, and Mexico. Celebrating its 10-year anniversary this year, New Ventures is re-emerging as a Global Network of six sustainable entrepreneurship centers in six of the world’s most dynamic emerging markets. In order to achieve its ambitious agenda this year, New Ventures is looking for an intern to help support the DC team with their various responsibilities.

Responsibilities : This internship will focus on three (3) key areas:
1. Communications : New Ventures recently launched a new website and a newsletter to strengthen its communications activities. The responsibilities of the intern include:
* Building and maintaining the New Ventures constituent database
* Developing the Fall 2010 newsletter, which aims to provide New Ventures’ constituents with key information
* Maintaining and writing content for the new website
* Updating and monitoring New Ventures’ twitter account.

2. Development : New Ventures actively raises funds for its partners on the ground as well as the program as a whole. With the completion of a new 5-year strategic plan, New Ventures is ramping up its fundraising efforts. The responsibilities of the intern include:
* Researching new donor prospects
* Supporting New Ventures staff in developing and editing letters, proposals and funder reports

3. Special event : New Ventures is planning a Global Investor Forum in March 2011. The event aims to 1) showcase top New Ventures Enterprises to a global audience of investors, financial institutions, buyers and donors and 2) increase awareness about New Ventures – its achievements and value proposition–among the investment and philanthropic community in North America. Through this event, New Ventures aims to drive additional resources to the program and the companies it supports. The responsibilities of the intern include:
* researching target investors and other key stakeholders for the event
* reaching out to potential sponsors
* drafting invitation letters, and other print material
* helping develop the program and agenda

Eligibility :
# A Bachelor’s degree (either completed or in progress) in communications, marketing or related business field
# Knowledge of trends in online web services and social media
# Experience with website content management
# Excellent writing skills
# Ability to learn new software and systems quickly
# Attention to detail and high level of organization
# Interest in and knowledge of business capital and markets
# Proficient with Word, Excel, PowerPoint
# Ability to self-motivate, stay organized, and work both independently and as part of a team

Location : US-DC-Washington

Duration of Internship : The period of this internship is flexible, but we request that all applicants be willing and able to work with New Ventures for a minimum of 20 hours per week for 15 weeks.
