Doctor of Phiolosophy (Ph.D) Programme in Education
The Doctoral Programme in Education aims to develop an understanding of Research, Public Policy and Educational theory and Practice, and the Relationships among them
It begins with a study of specific courses followed by rigorous research leading to a dissertation
No. of Seats for PhD Program:
Admissions to the PhD Program are made in two groups:
Group I: Upto Six (6) seats are available in the PhD Program in the academic session 2015-16 for the Non-Net (having no fellowship/financial assistance) candidates
Group II: Upto six (6) seats are available for candidates with fellowship / financial assistance
Eligibility Criteria for PhD Program in Education:
To be eligible for admission to the Ph.D programme, a candidate must have obtained a Master’s or an M.Phil Degree in Education of the University of Delhi, or any other recognized University
She/He must have obtained either a minimum of 50% marks or an equivalent grade in the M.Phil degree or a minimum of 55% marks or an equivalent grade in the Master’s degree
Students who are initially registered for the M.Phil (Education) programme of the University can also apply provided they fulfill the above eligible condition
Note: Rounding off of fractions is not allowed while computing the percentage of marks of eligibility
Selection Procedure for PhD Program in Education:
The process of selection for admission to the PhD Program for candidates who fulfill the minimum eligibility requirements consists of:
a) Written Test: Maximum Marks – 75 , Duration – 3 hours
The Written test will comprise the following three sections:
Section-I (25 Marks): Specific questions based on one or more given passages related to theoretical ideas and contemporary issues and debates in education
Section-II (25 Marks): Reading and Interpreting Data, Simple Statistical Applications and Understanding of Research Methodology
Section-III (25 Marks): Writing short reflective/analytical essay(s) on a given set of themes
(b) Interview: Marks – 25
The Interview will focus on gauging candidates’ understanding of the field, extent of their readings in the area, clarity of purpose, and their ability to present a defense of the Statement of Purpose
The minimum passing marks in the Written test will be 40% for candidates from the general category and 35% for candidates from the reserved categories (SC/ST/OBC/PwD)
Two separate final selection lists for Group I and Group II will be prepared on the basis of the candidates’ combined performance in the Written Test and Interview
How to Apply for PhD Program in Education Admission 2015
Application form can be downloaded from the website www.cie.edu.ac.in and Delhi University website www.du.ac.in
Application to the PhD programme requires the duly filled in Application Form along with the attested copies of relevant documents as specified in the application form
Only those candidates who are short listed for the interview are required to submit 6 copies of their Statement of Purpose between 17th Aug to 21st August 2015
An entrance examination fee of Rs.600/- (Rs.300/- for SC/ST/PWD) in cash has to be submitted with the application form at the Department of Education, University of Delhi latest by 10th July 2015
Application can also be sent by registered post to the Dean, Faculty of Education, Delhi University, Delhi-110007, mentioning the name of the programme on the envelope along with a Bank Draft of Rs. 600/- (Rs 300/- for SC/ST/PWD) in favor of Registrar, University of Delhi payable at Delhi University

Date of Written Test: 31st July 2015 (10.00 am 01.00 pm)
Display of the List of candidates Called for Interview: 14th August 2015 (04.00 pm)
Date of Interview: 28th August 2015 (10.00 am at CIE, University of Delhi)
Display of list of Candidates recommended for admission: 01st September 2015 (Tuesday, 04.00 pm)
