Applications are invited by Scottisch Church College (SCC), Kolkata for admission to two years Bachelor of Education (B.Ed) course for the session 2015
The Dept. of Teacher Education of Scottish Church College offers the Bachelor of Education (B.Ed) course of training for those who want professional training in teaching and for the Secondary (IX-X) and Higher Secondary (XI-XII) teachers deputed by the schools which are recognized by the West Bengal Board of Secondary Education & West Bengal Madrasah Education Board, provided the deputation is sanctioned by the Govt of West Bengal
To achieve the above objectives, the department not only arranges curriculum transaction through lectures but also provides tutorial classes, laboratory practical work, practical training in teaching through practice teaching in different schools, etc.
Seminars, conferences and workshops are arranged and co-curricular activities are also regular features of the course
Duration of the Course: The duration of the B.Ed programme as per the NCTE Regulations 2014 is 2 (Two) Years
Basic Unit: 50 students
Subjects Offered: English; Bengali; History; Geography; Philosophy; Physical Science and Life Science
Community Reservations: Being a Christian Minority Institution, the College reserves 30% seats for Christian minority applicants satisfying the minimum University requirements. Among Christian Applicants, preference is given to CNI /CSI/Marthoma candidates
Eligibility for Applying (as per Calcutta University notification dated 5.6.2015):
Only women candidates can apply.
Candidates with at least 50% marks either in the Bachelor’s Degree and/or in the Master’s Degree in Sciences/Humanities/Social Science, Bachelor’s in Engineering or Technology with specialization in Science and Mathematics with 55% marks or any other qualification equivalent there to be eligible for admission to the program
The relaxation of marks for SC/ST/PWD is 5%
Reservation of seats for B.Ed admission (only for fresher category)
i) Calcutta University: 80%
ii) Other University (OU): 20%
3. Reservation of Seats for SC/ST and Person with Disability (PWD) will be as follows:
i) Scheduled Caste: 22%
ii) Scheduled Tribe: 06%
iii) PWD: 03%
4. SC/ST from other states will not get the reservation facility for SC/ST
Age Limit for SCC Kolkata B.Ed Admission 2015
For fresher students (Gen Category): 40 years (as on 30th June2015)
For Deputed Students (General Category): No age bar
A relaxation of maximum 5 (five) years is applicable for students belonging to SC/ST/ PWD categories
In case applicants having equal service in Secondary School /Madrasah, preference will be given to the candidates having higher Academic Qualifications
In case of both the Period of Service and Academic Qualifications are equal, selection will be made on the basis of percentage of marks obtained by the candidates in different examinations in their career and candidates having higher grade marks will be selected (Grade Marks calculation will be done as meant for fresher candidates)

Selection Procedure for B.Ed Course 2015
1. For Deputed Candidates Only: Selection of Deputed Teacher of Secondary and Higher Secondary School/Madrasah affiliated to W.B.B.S.E./W.B.B.M.E will be made on the basis of the period of approved services in the School/Madrasah
In case applicants have equal service in Secondary School/Madrasah, preference will be given to the candidates having higher academic qualifications; in case both the Period of Service and Academic Qualifications are equal, selection will be made on the basis of percentage of marks obtained by the candidates in different exams in their career and candidates having higher grade marks will be selected (Grade Marks calculation will be done as meant for Fresher Candidates); only those applicants teaching Classes IX-XII will be considered in this category
Candidates are to produce original & attested mark-sheets & certificates to prove candidature during counselling/admission along with:
a) A No-Objection-Certificate (NOC) from the school authority with a statement that the candidate is a teacher of classes IX-XII; (b) A Managing Committee resolution countersigned by D.I. of Schools. (Original & Attested Copies); (c) Approval letter from Govt. authority with date of appointment (Original& Attested Copies); (d) Other Testimonials (Age Proof/Caste Certificate/Physical Disability Certificate/Migration Certificate/Baptism Certificate & Letter from the Parish Priest), as required (Original & Attested Copies); (e) Proof of Nationality
II. For Non-Deputed Candidates Only: A written test to evaluate their knowledge, skill and ability to be a teacher; the admission test will consist of 20-25 MCQs in the English language very much like the Teacher Eligibility Test (TET)
An interview to evaluate their communication skill
For candidates opting for English, Geography, History, Physical Science and Life Science the interview will be conducted in English
Candidates opting for Philosophy will have the option of answering the interview question either in English or Bengali
The final selection is merit based and is done on the basis of the candidate's Total Score: (Grade Marks + College administered admission test + Interview)
