Chandigarh: Former Lok Sabha speaker Somnath Chatterjee will be honored with an honorary doctorate of law degree at the 60th annual convocation of Panjab University to be held here on February 14, a university spokesman said on Tuesday.
Punjab Governor and Chandigarh Administrator Shivraj Patil will address the convocation.
The university, which is the alma mater and former workplace of Prime Minister Manmohan Singh, will also honor noted author-journalist Khushwant Singh with a doctorate of literature degree.
However, Manmohan Singh will be honored later at a special function to be held at his residence in New Delhi. He had, in a communication to the university last month, expressed his inability to be present at the convocation in view of his age and poor health. IANS
