SWEDEN – DISABILITY RESEARCH SCHOLARSHIP 2010 – LINKOPINGS UNIVERSITET

Connected to Linnaeus Centre HEAD is the HEAD Graduate School. Both form part of the Swedish Institute for Disability Research (SIDR), which is hosted by IBL, Section for Cognition, Development and Disability (CDD). SIDR was established in the year 2000 in collaboration between the universities of Linköping and Örebro. SIDR provides scientific training to PhD level and is European leader in the field of Disability Research; a multidisciplinary area spanning faculty boundaries. Scientific training at SIDR offers doctoral students the opportunity to collaborate in multidisciplinary groups, develop a cross-disciplinary mind-set and come into contact with the international research frontier. Membership of the HEAD Graduate School enhances the training provided by SIDR by offering strategic training opportunities within the HEAD field.

Duties : The Postdoctor will take part in research projects connected to the field of Cognitive Hearing Science based on experimental methods. At the core of research are behavioural as well as neural analyses of cognitive processing mechanisms underlying the ability to cope with degradation of the auditory speech stream (by noise, hearing impairment or signal processing in a hearing aid). Modelling of this interaction targets cognitive concepts such as working memory capacity and cognitive spare capacity. A Postdoctor will essentially carry out research. The position may also involve teaching, but during no more than a fifth of work time.
Eligibility : The doctorate should hold a PhD in a field of relevance for Cognitive Hearing Science and should have published papers on hearing and cognition in peer-review journals. The position requires a doctorate or an equivalent degree from a foreign university. The doctorate shall have been obtained no longer than three years before the expiration date of the application.
