New Delhi: In a first, Delhi University (DU) has joined hands with seven French institutes to offer a double degree programme in Nuclear Science.
The Department of Physics and Astrophysics, which launched the M.Tech. programme last year, will collaborate with the French institutes to offer the degree.
"The collaboration with seven French institutes for a dual degree programme in nuclear science is a first ever tie up of such kind in our history. A group of seven institutes will be offering the master's degree programme in Paris - University of Paris, Paris Technologies, Ecole Centrale, Supelec and ISTN," informed Prof. R.K. Shivpuri, the head of the Department of Physics.
Under this programme, students will be awarded a master's in nuclear energy only after they get themselves enrolled in the varsity's third year M.Tech. Programme and spend their third and fourth semester in Paris.
Prof. Shivpuri further added, "This programme is backed by the industry and would be offered with the full support of EDF and Areva (organizations working in the field of civil nuclear energy). Students would also get to intern with these organizations."
The M.Tech. Programme currently being taught at DU, corresponds with the topics taught in the first year of the master's programme in nuclear science in France.
Students visiting France would be specializing in any one of the five areas recommended in the French second year course.
