DU conducts its first online examination

New Delhi: The Institute of Lifelong Learning (ILLL) of Delhi University (DU) conducted the first online examination for the students of BSc programme. The exam was conducted at Miranda House and Deen Dayal Upadhyay (DDU) College.

More than 800 students appeared for the online examination conducted by the varsity. The examination was of 60 minutes duration. Several others will appear for the online examination on June 9 and 13.

"The Computer Based Test (CBT) examination is more interesting than writing the test using pen and paper," said a student who appeared for the examination.

"The online examination saves our time; it is more convenient and less tiring. We are looking forward to the introduction of more such exams," said another student.

Terming this as the beginning of the next generation examination in higher education, Prof. A.K. Bakhshi, Director, ILLL said the success of this pilot-run would help ILLL make the Computer Based Test (CBT) an integral part of the examination reforms in future.

"Not only students, but examiners and evaluators also support the online examination. We conduct the exam to test students' application and knowledge and one can develop such questions for online exams as well. In fact, we already have the results although we have not declared them today,'' said Prof. Bakhshi.

"The online examination will be tough for science subjects such as Physics or Chemistry,'' said another student of the varsity.

"We may not be able to judge the writing and presentation skills of the students through this exam; it is the only drawback of the exam. But we're working on that format and there are softwares available for such exams as well,'' added Prof. Bakhshi.
