DU may allot more seats to B.Com Hons.

New Delhi: Delhi University (DU) might increase the number of seats available in B. Com Honours (Hons)

The varsity may likely shift the B.Com programme, initially known as B.Com (pass) to the School of Open Learning (SOL) and add the seats to it.

"The final decision has to be taken yet and the proposal will be submitted before the Academic Council soon which will take a decision," Vice-Chancellor, Prof. Deepak Pental said.

The B.Com programme was introduced four years back as a modified version of the B.Com (Pass) course by the university.

"The seats of the B.Com programme will be amended in B.Com (Hons) course and will help in more students pursuing the course, as it is the most sought after course in the DU," he added.

The course can be availed if a student scores over 85pc marks.

"Many students could not pursue this course even after scoring high marks due to limited seats. Now this won't act as a hindrance in pursuing the course," he said.

"In case a student does not have a Commerce background then the student won't be eligible to pursue the course as Accountancy is not applicable without Maths," said VC.

However, the teachers' union is opposing this criteria as they feel that this is not in best interest of the students.
