IIM-C to hike its fees by Rs.5 lakh

Kolkata: The Indian Institute of Management, Calcutta, (IM-C) will be hiking its fees by Rs.5 lakh for students seeking admission for 2009-11.

The fee has been increased for their flagship management programme. Each student will now pay Rs.9 lakh for two years. Students will now have to pay Rs.4 lakh he first year and Rs.5 lakh for the second year for the Post-Graduate Diploma in Business Management and Post-Graduate Diploma in Computer aided Management (PGDM and PGDCM) programme.

However, the batch of 2008-10 will be paying Rs.7 lakh. The decision was taken on Friday by the Board of Governors.

According to Dinesh Verma, Chief Administrative Officer, IIM-C "Even though the fees has been hiked but compared to increase in the fees structure of IIM-A and IIM-B last year which was Rs.11 lakh and Rs.9.5 lakh, IIM-C has kept it feasible."

"IIM-C has planned to increase their Other Backward Classes quota (OBC) by 27 pc. The number of students seeking admission will now increase to 400 instead of 304 students."

"The institute has also increased the annual body of scholarship for poor students from Rs.75 lakh to Rs.1.5 crore. Families whose annual income is less than 4 lakh will be entitled for the scholarship," added Verma.

The Board of Governors has even decided to increase the strength of teachers from 88 to 120.
