Tirupati: The Rashtriya Sanskrit Vidyapeetha, Tirupati has been granted an amount of Rs.19.43 lakh by the University Grants Commission (UGC) for undertaking five research projects in the field of Sanskrit and traditional sastras during the XI plan period.
The university has also been granted an additional amount of Rs.7 lakh for introducing career-oriented programmes in Sanskrit.
Diploma course in translation techniques and creative writing in Sanskrit and regional languages has been introduced by the varsity.
The grant has been sanctioned by the UGC after according approval to the research proposals submitted by the varsity's faculty members S. Satyanarayana Murthy, Viroopaksha V. Jaddipal, Narasimhacharya Purohit, V. Sujatha and R. Deepta.
"An amount of Rs.5 crore has already been released as the first installment," said Krishna Satapathy, Vice-Chancellor of the varsity.
"The varsity is also chalking out plans to construct a boys' hostel, besides taking up extension of academic building, education building and library building," added Prof. Satapathy.
