New Delhi: Union Human Resource Development (HRD) Minister, Arjun Singh has approved the proposal to setup eight new Jawahar Navodaya Vidyalayas (JNVs) in districts which have a larger concentration of Scheduled Caste / Scheduled Tribe population.
The states in which the JNVs would be setup include Karnataka (Gulbarga Village & Post Office Korwar); Madhya Pradesh (Ujjain Village Pipaliya Mollu, P.O. Unhel); Gujarat (Dahod Village & Post Office Limkheda); Rajasthan (Banswara Village Mota-Tanda, P.O. Ganoda, Tehsil Gatol); Maharashtra (Nandurbar Village & Post Office Shravani, Taluka Navapur); Jharkhand (Pakur Village & Post Office Amarapara); Meghalaya (East Khasi Hills Village & P.O. Mawsynram) and Assam (Karbi Anglong Village & Post Office Pharkongchihi).
The Central Government had approved, in September 2008, the opening of 20 new JNVs in 20 districts.
Accordingly, the Navodaya Vidyalaya Samiti had requested the State Governments to provide 30 acres of land, free of cost, for the construction of these Vidyalayas.
The State Governments of Karnataka, Madhya Pradesh, Gujarat, Rajasthan, Maharashtra, Jharkhand, Meghalaya and Assam submitted a suitable proposal to the Samiti, for opening of JNVs in their respective States. After examination of these proposals, the HRD Minister sanctioned the new JNVs.
In all these JNVs, besides the Academic & Administrative Block, there is hostel accommodation for 560 students.
Every Vidyalaya will have a dining hall and sports facilities. 42 quarters for teachers and staff will also be constructed.
During the year 2009-10, about 40 students will be admitted in each of these Vidyalayas. An approximate amount of Rs.13.50 crores will be spent on the construction of the Vidyalaya i.e. total Rs.270 crores on the construction of 20 Jawahar Navodaya Vidyalayas.
An official from the HRD Ministry said, "As per directions of the HRD Minister, the officers of the HRD Ministry & Navodaya Vidyalaya Samiti are in constant touch with the respective State Government for opening of the Jawahar Navodaya Vidyalayas in the remaining 12 districts and it is expected that the new Jawahar Navodaya Vidyalayas will be opened in all these 20 districts during this financial year and the classes will start from the next academic year i.e. 2009-10".
