Noida: Amity University conducted the annual convocation ceremony at its Noida campus here today to reward the hard work and diligence of its students.
A total of 3,740 students were awarded degrees and diplomas of various streams at the convocation ceremony.
For the first time, Amity awarded five PhD degrees to four management students and one law student.
The convocation address was delivered by the Chief Guest - Mr. M.N. Venkatachaliah, former Chief Justice of India.
Congratulating students, Major General K. Jai Singh, Vice-Chancellor of the varsity gave a brief overview of the programs and scholarships offered by Amity University. He also reviewed the achievements and progress of the varsity.
The Vice-Chancellor said that knowledge without thought and direction was a curse which brings only sorrow. "In Amity, we teach students to acquire responsibilities with intellectual development so that they become not only intellectuals but the future citizens of India in the real sense of the term", he said.
Addressing the gathering, Chancellor of the university Mr. Atul Chauhan said, "Amity has a different mission and vision from its inception which every Amitian should have embedded in their heart and mind. Every Amitian should opt for better performance in the future life so that they become a part of the nation building process."
"I notice the capabilities, potentialities of Amitians and see a future Prime Minister, a Nobel laureate among them," he added.
'The LG Best Potential Manager Award' was conferred upon Jitesh Arora from MBA.
Interacting with NNE Journalists - Jagriti Kumari and Dibyajyoti Borah, Jitesh expressed his gratitude towards the faculty and staff of the varsity. He also remarked recession as a phase of the economy and suggested everyone to be optimistic about the global economic recession.
Several other students from Journalism & Mass Communication and Forensic science said that Amity had given them a very good platform to have newer opportunities in the present competitive world.
The Best All Round Student award was given to Ashit Prakash Mahajan from P.G. Diploma in Insurance Management.
Pulkit Dublish from MBA was awarded the Jubilant Organosys Entrepreneurial Excellence Award.
Gold, Silver and Bronze medals were awarded to various students of different courses for their excellent academic performances.
A number of guests, students and parents from across the country attended the convocation ceremony.
The Convocation was declared open and closed by Mr. Atul Chauhan.
