Vellore: A Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) has been signed between the Vellore Institute of Technology (VIT) and Institution of Electrical and Electronics Engineers (IEEE) Computer Society (USA), to conduct a Certified Software Development Associates (CSDA) programme for students of computing disciplines.
The MoU was signed in the presence of Pro-Chancellors Sekar Viswanathan and G.V. Selvam, by G. Viswanathan, Chancellor of VIT University and Sorel Reisman, Vice-President, IEEE Computer Society.
The CSDA programme, designed by more than 1,900 software managers across the globe, will be offered jointly by the VIT University and the IEEE Computer Society.
"The CSDA programme was a new programme introduced in May 2008 in the U.S. and in September 2008 worldwide, for the entry-level software engineers (with less than five years experience) and final year students of computing disciplines, particularly software engineering", Dr. Reisman said.
"The CSDA and the Certified Software Development Professional (CSDP) programme offered by the IEEE Computer Society for mid-level software professionals had got wide acceptability among the Indian IT industry as observed during the last three to four visits of Rangachar Kasturi, president of the IEEE Computer Society to India since May", Dr. Reisman added.
The IEEE is a U.S. based professional society established in 1946. It specializes in all accreditation processes and deals with software professional certifications.
Both the CSDP and the CSDA were the first two certifications that conform to the newly-released ISO/IEC 24773 standards, which enable methods of certifying software engineering professionals.
The IEEE Computer Society has a global membership of 85,000 computing professionals.
It is now extending its benefits to Indian technical institutions, especially the faculty and students of computer science, software engineering, IT and software applications.
