Gulbarga: A five-member team from the National Assessment and Accreditation Council (NAAC), under the chairmanship of S.P. Thyagarajan, former Vice-Chancellor of the University of Madras, will be on visit to Gulbarga University for four days.

The team will visit the varsity from January 27, 2009 for assessment of facilities and re-accreditation of the university.

V. Kunhikrishnan, Pro-Vice-Chancellor of Kannur University; G. Haragopal of the University of Hyderabad; N.V. Narasimham, Director of the School of Management Studies, IGNOU; and Satya P. Gautam from Jawaharlal Nehru University (JNU) are among others comprising the team.

"The university will be awarded a grade according to the parameters set by NAAC after visiting various departments, inspecting facilities and holding interactions with heads of departments and principals of the university-affiliated colleges during their four-day visit", said Prof. B.G. Mulimani, Vice-Chancellor of the Gulbarga University.

Prof. Mulimani further said, "The team members would acquaint themselves with the strengths and weaknesses of the university and analyze the mechanism adopted by the university to improve the quality of education."

Presentations will be made by most of the department heads and a preliminary meeting will also be held with the vice-chancellor of the varsity.

Visiting members will also inspect the laboratories in the departments and there will be an interaction with students of different postgraduate departments and the alumni.

NCC, NSS, administrative and finance sections will also be visited by the team.

Prof. Mulimani said that the team would later interact with the Registrar of the university, Finance Officer, Controller of Examination and Dean of Student Affairs before meeting principals of the university-affiliated colleges. They would later hold a discussion with the Vice-Chancellor.

The varsity, which was earlier accredited with a four-star status by an NAAC team, is expecting a higher grading this time due to increased facilities for students, improvement in the quality of education and introduction of new postgraduate departments.
