'India's home-grown technology is world class' - ISRO Chief

Mysore: Delivering a lecture on India's achievements in Space Technology at the Institution of Engineers (Mysore) recently, Chairman of the Indian Space Research Organization (ISRO), G. Madhavan Nair, said that the successful Chandrayaan mission has proved that India's home-grown technology is world-class.

"Investment in space technology has paid rich dividends to the country and ISRO has succeeded in taking its benefits from the confines of the laboratory, to the society at large", Nair said.

"It is not possible for us to adopt technologies evolved by developed nations as it would not serve India's purpose because 70 percent of the people of India live in rural areas and it calls for addressing technological issues from the local angle," he added.

The lecture was a part of the Technical Lecture Series, organized by the Institution of Engineers at Mysore on December 28.

The ISRO Chief offered his heartiest thanks to the people of India and the Government for the support extended in the successful Chandrayaan Mission.

"The Chandrayaan mission was accomplished in four years from the time of project conception. This is remarkable for a maiden mission", Nair said.

Institution of Engineers Chairman C.N. Babu, Secretary C.S. Rajashekargowda, former Chairman K.N. Subba Rao and others were also present during the lecture.
