AMU Professors bag international fellowships

Aligarh: Two Professors from the Aligarh Muslim University (AMU) have been selected for international fellowships in their respective fields.

Dr. Afzal Anees, from the Department of Surgery at Jawaharlal Nehru Medical College - AMU, has been elected the 'Fellow of International College of Surgeons (FICS)'.

Dr. Anees received the award at the annual conference of Association of Surgeons of India, under the aegis of the Indian section of International College of Surgeons (ICS), USA at Trichy.

He also presented the paper on the light weight mesh in the "open-inguinal hernia repair" at the conference.

Dr. Anees has also received several other awards including the "Young Outstanding Surgical Teacher Award-2008" by the UP Chapter of Association of Surgeons of India.

Another Professor from AMU, Dr. Rakesh Bhargava has been elected for the prestigious fellowship at the American College of Chest Physicians (ACCP), in recognition of his significant achievements and professional career.

Dr. Bhargava is the Chairman of Department of Chest and Respiration at Jawaharlal Nehru Medical College.

The honour will be conferred on Dr. Bhargava at the annual conference of ACCP in November 2009.

A series of research papers on his subject in various conferences held by European Respiratory Society in Stockholm and Germany have been presented by Dr. Bhargava.

So far, 66 research papers by Dr. Bhargava have been published in national and international journals.

Dr. Bhargava has been a member to various organizations of repute including the Indian Chest Society, National College of Chest Physicians, Indian College of Allergy, Asthma & Immunology and Indian College of Bronchology.

He has also completed an important project of the University Grants Commission (UGC) on - "Effect of Smoking and Pollution in Aligarh Lock Industry".
