AMU professor gets membership of UK surgical college

Aligarh: Dr. Latif Zafar Jilani of Aligarh Muslim University (AMU) has been awarded the membership of the Royal College of Surgeons of Edinburgh (RCSEd), United Kingdom, one of the oldest surgical corporations in the world.

Dr. Jilani is a lecturer in the Department of Orthopaedic Surgery at Jawaharlal Nehru Medical College (JNMC).

Dr. Jilani was conferred the membership by the President of the Royal College, Mr. John D. Orr, at the Diploma Ceremony of the college held at the historic Surgeon's Hall in Edinburgh.

The prestigious RCSEd membership was bestowed on him following the successful completion of the requisite Intercollegiate MRCS Examination.

Ninety two new members and fellows from all over the world were inducted into the world-renowned Royal College of Surgeons of Edinburgh at the Conferring Ceremony.

Speaking at the ceremony, Mr. John D. Orr said, "Our new members are joining a famous and venerable institution, which has been educating and training surgeons for over 500 years since 1505."

More than 90 diplomats and guests, apart from many top medical professionals, including many RCSEd fellows attended the ceremony.

Dr. Jilani obtained his MBBS and MS Orthopedics degrees from JNMC. Before joining the Department of Orthopaedic Surgery as a Lecturer, he worked at the Armed Forces Hospital, Oman, Warrington Hospital Cheshire and Wythenshawe Hospital, Manchester (UK).
