Mumbai: With an aim to inspire young minds to pursue a career in the field of Science, the Deputy Director of Education, Government of Maharashtra will organize the P-ward Science Exhibition 2008-2009 on a ward-level basis from November 20 - November 22, 2008.
The exhibition, arranged by the National Council of Education Research and Training (NCERT), will be held at Infant Jesus School, Malad (W), Mumbai from 8:00 am to 4:00 pm.
The theme of this year's exhibition will be 'Science and Technology for Global Sustainability'.
The sub-themes at the exhibition include:
- Agricultural and Food security
- Saving energy / harnessing energy
- Conservation of natural resources
- combating climate change
- Disaster management
- Mathematical modelling
Other exhibits at the exhibition include topics on Population Education, Adult Education as well as Teaching Aid projects by the Junior Teachers, Senior Teachers and a project by the Laboratory Assistant.
Several co-curricular activities will also be held at various venues on November 18-19. The ward will also display exhibits and portray various facets of the states of Maharashtra, Karnataka, Uttaranchal, Goa and Himachal Pradesh.
A total of 128 schools and 18 junior colleges will participate in the 3-day exhibition.
Students will put up more than 300 participatory exhibits which will include innovative working models and teaching-aids, enhancing knowledge.
In addition, two workshops on Career Guidance and Global Warming (causes, consequences and solution) will also be held at the same venue on the 20th and 22nd respectively.
More than 3000 students and 250 parents and teachers are expected to visit the venue each day.
"Parents, teachers and students from schools all over Mumbai are invited to come, view and learn through a process of interaction and discovery. The goal is to show connections between science and its applications, to stimulate young explorers to discover the beauty of science, and to inspire students to pursue scientific education and careers", an official release from the Government said.
Renowned Surgical & Cancer Pathologist and a sought-after speaker at national & international conferences, Dr. Anita Borges will be the chief guest on November 20.
Other guests on respective days include Film Actress Nagma (November 21), Dr. A.V.R. Reddy (Head Nuclear Chemical Sciences) B.A.R.C. & Dr. A. Ramachary (Geo-Physicist) (November 22).
A total of 14 judges have been appointed from the Tata Institute of Fundamental Research (TIFR), B.Ed Colleges, D.Ed. Colleges. In addition, a judge's squad from the Education Department will serve at each level of the contest exhibition.
The names of the winners will be announced on the last day of the exhibition.
