Karnataka Biotechnology Aptitude Test (KBAT) for admission of students to Biotechnology Finishing Schools (BTFS) for Post Graduate Diploma
A very unique initiative in India with enhanced placement opportunities in Biotech Sector, launched by Govt of Karnataka in association with Govt of India and ABLE. The course covers 8 domains in 12 reputed in institutes across Karnataka
All 12 BTFS institutions will be commencing their courses from October 2015
Applications are invited from interested students across India for admission into post-graduate diploma in specialized areas of biotechnology for the academic session 2015-16

Course Details for Karnataka Biotechnology Aptitude Test (KBAT) 2015
Duration of Course: One year programmes; 6 months academic coaching and 6 months industry internship
Course Fee Structure
i. Fees for the 12 months' program shall not exceed Rs 50,000/- per student
ii. A sum of Rs.10,000 (non-refundable) to be paid directly to the chosen BTFS host institution for confirming the allotted seat before 20th September 2015
iii. Rs 40,000/- to be paid directly also to the BTFS host institution on the first day of course commencement

Eligibility Criteria for Karnataka Biotechnology Aptitude Test (KBAT) 2015
Candidates must have a minimum of 50% in Masters degree from Universities of the state or any other University recognized as equivalent in Life Sciences, Biotechnology, Microbiology, Biochemistry, Bioinformatics or any other life science related courses; B.E/ B.Tech - Biotechnology, Bioinformatics, Bachelor of Pharmacy, Agriculture, Veterinary, MBBS and BDS are also eligible to apply
Candidates who have appeared for the M.Sc /B.E final exams can also apply
In certain exceptional cases, (Plant Tissue Culture & Micro propagation domain at MMAS - Sirsi & St. Aloysius College - Mangalore) B.Sc degree holders are eligible
Upon selection, a provisional degree certificate should be submitted to the respective colleges within two weeks of course commencement
Selection Process for Karnataka Biotechnology Aptitude Test (KBAT) 2015
The process consists of two steps. The first step is to achieve success in an online exam (KBAT) and the second step is to perform well in a live interview in Bangalore
I. KBAT (Karnataka Biotechnology Aptitude Test):
KBAT is an all India on-line examination administered and conducted by KBITS to admit students to the BTFS program launched by the Govt. of Karnataka
Students interested in admission to BTFS program must register to take up KBAT online exam on or before 20th of July 2015
KBAT aims to test the fundamental concepts in Biology, in particular, cell and molecular biology as well as general biology; general aptitude and proficiency in English
The exam will be set on-line so that it can be taken anywhere with a good internet facility
KBAT consists of 100 multiple choice questions to be answered in 60 minutes in a highly disciplined manner
The short listed candidates are expected to attend a personal interview tentatively on 25th & 27th August 2015 in Bangalore
II. Personal Interview:
(i) Subject Knowledge - 30 marks; (ii) Practical Lab Skills - 20 marks; (iii) Aptitude - 20 marks; (iv) General Awareness - 10 marks; (v) Communication Skills - 10 marks; (vi) Previous Experience / Research Project - 10 marks; Total - 100 Marks
Final Score for each student = 20% of KBAT Marks + 40% Interview Marks + 40% from Academic Profile and Final merit list is generated
