Joint entrance for BBE, BBS, BFIA mulled at DU

New Delhi: The Delhi University (DU) from this year mulls a joint entrance test for Bachelor of Business Studies (BBS), Bachelor of Business Economics (BBE) and Bachelor of Financial Investment and Analysis (BFIA).

Those who did not have maths as their subject in class XII are now not eligible to apply in any of these academic courses this year onwards.

The joint entrance test for all the three courses will be held on June 6 in Delhi, Chandigarh, Lucknow and Kolkata for which the application procedure has also been made online. It will be made available from April 5 to May 4, 2010.

According to DU's records, there were 15,000 students applying for these courses last year, indicating the popularity of the programme.

Rashmi Aggarwal, head of department, BBE said that, "It is of no use for students to sit for an exam twice which has almost same content. It was observed that last year many of the candidates applying for more than one course sat for entrances of BBE and BBS with almost same set of questions. It seems pointless for students to first sit for a similar test twice and then await for a separate couselling."

While BBE is offered in 10 colleges in DU, BBS is taught in three colleges - Deen Dayal Upadhyaya College, Shaheed Sukhdev College of Business Studies and Keshav Mahavidyala. BFIA is offered in only Shaheed Sukhdev College of Business Studies.

BBS has so far been a much sought-after option after B.Com for students of commerce who do not study maths in classes XI and XII.

All the other viable options for commerce students, which is, B.Com (honours), BA (honours) Economics, BBE and BFIA, only those who have studied maths in class XII stand eligible.

"We have observed that over the years, those who did not study maths in class XII usually do not apply for these courses. BBS has two papers of maths and statistics and those who did not study maths often find it difficult to cope up with the syllabus," said S K Garg, principal of Deen Dayal Upadhyaya College.

"Knowledge of maths upto class XII is necessary now as we are now in the process of adding more of mathematics in the BBS curriculum," added Garg.

2ND INTERNATIONAL NDT CONFERENCE 2010 – CHARLES UNIVERSITY

The proposed conference on the above theme will be held at the Charles University, Prague, Czech Republic from July 7-9, 2010 which aims to enable researchers build connections between different digital applications.

Currently, a number of institutions across the countries are working to evolve better models to provide collaborative technology services for scholarship by creating shared cyberspace thro expert collaboration, but this is a challenge for the institutions for a number of reasons.
