Nine centres, including two in Delhi, have been identified for students to take the online exam.

The CAT went online for the first time in 2009 but several students could not appear for the exam due to technical glitches in the exam system. IANS
Mumbai: The Indian Institutes of Management (IIMs), after the much talked over row of Common Admission Test's (CAT) online launch has come up with a plan to overhaul student's selection process by lowering the weightage for the score obtained in CAT.

Lowering the weightage would mean that the IIMs, like that in Kozhikode, which fully entrusted its admission criteria based on highest CAT scores (90 points) would now settle for just 50.

A senior from IIM-Kozhikode faculty announced that, "We plan to revamp the admission criteria. From now, the performance of students in class X and XII, apart from their work experience would be given importance."

He further added that, the decision bears no connection with the technical glitches that lead to much chaos last year.

"The change was mulled from the past two-three years and have finally settled to bring down the CAT weightage to 50 points this year."

With the advent of the next admission season, the IIM Bangalore has decided to go on the lines of IIM Ahmedabad.

Doing away with the group discussions, IIM-Bangalore has announced that the candidates should be prepared for essay writing, something that IIM-A started way back in 2007.

"Thirty minutes would be granted to the candidates to reflect upon current issues like political, economic and business affairs and write their opinion. Topics like sports and others, which require a creative thinking can also be included," said an IIM-B official.

IIM-A didn't disclose its selection process in detail last year.

Sources in IIM-Calcutta said the selection process was likely to remain unchanged.

The new IIMs expected to start this academic year are yet to take any decision on the selection procedure.

SRISHTI ANNUAL FEST 2010 – IIT – ROORKEE

“Srishti” … the very word paints a picture of a never-ending expanse of unexplored creativity. All that the human mind can imagine, all the ideas it can give wings to and all the fancies it can give colour to, are encompassed by this single word. Srishti is the annual techno-hobby exhibition organised by the Hobbies Club IITR. It is one of the largest exhibitions at college-level that recognises innovation – a playground for young creative minds. The only one of its kind in IITs, Srishti sees a huge participation of people in terms of footfalls per day with a large number of students and professionals attending this three day fest.

Srishti is a grand event for the enthusiastic hobbyists. Last year, Srishti celebrated its 50th year in existence. The event witnessed an extensive participation of about 7000, comprising students and professionals from all around the country. The fact that all the events, competitions etc. are held in the Hobbies Club IITR premises make it the most happening place to be in for these three days. We hope to follow-up from where we left last year, and put together a much bigger and grander event with every possible effort we can put in.
